London based string ensembles available for hire

When should you book a trio instead of a duo or quartet?

Saturday, June 1 2019

The Apollo Strings Trio is a great choice if you’ve not got the room or budget for a string quartet but you want a larger sound than a string duo.

Many people initially enquire about the quartet and then end up booking the trio once they’ve listened to their tracks and seen the similarities. They really are very similar ensembles and if you need to make a little leeway on the wedding budget this is a great way to help!

The trio repertoire is fantastic and is growing fast as many big arrangers are now arranging their pieces to suit both the trio and the quartet which wasn’t the case a few years ago.

A quartet is comprised of two violins, one viola and one cello. The trio simply loses one of the violins. This does mean dropping one line of harmony but with cleverly arranged music this is often hardly noticeable.

If you’re stuck between ensembles you can always get in touch with Apollo Strings and we’ll be happy to talk through the options with you and suggest which might be best for you and your circumstances.

Live music is treat for both you and your guests so you can’t go far wrong with any of the choices, so long as it fits within your budget and the space available!
