Our favourite classical wedding playlist

Monday, December 17 2018

All Apollo strings performers are classically trained to conservatoire level which makes it pretty tough to choose a favourite classical playlist! However, there are inevitably a handful of pieces that we never tire of playing and thankfully they’re very often requested at weddings!

Canon in D, Pachelbel

Yes, we’ve played it a million times and if you listen carefully the poor cellist has the same eight note sequence throughout but this doesn’t stop us loving this classic piece of music. It’s graceful and charming and gets more and more beautiful as it goes on – what’s not to love?

Air on the G string, Bach

This soothing piece of music by Bach has a very calming effect on the listener and is very soothing and reflective – a lovely choice either for your entrance in to the ceremony or for the signing of the register.

Largo from Winter, Vivaldi

This is one of those pieces that you may say you’re not familiar with until you hear it – of yes, that one! It’s often heard in movies or TV programmes where a quintessential classical quartet style is required. It’s slightly more sprightly than the former two but still very gentle and calming.

Intermezzo Sinfonico, Mascagni

This piece has the wow factor and is guaranteed to goose bump all of your wedding guests! This is a beautiful piece of music for the entrance of the bride but be warned, it’s a tearjerker so make sure your mascara is waterproof!

Aria from Xerxes, Handel

This one doesn’t get requested so often for some reason but it really is a bit of a hidden gem. It’s a very elegant and moving piece of music and truly deserves to be in this list of favourite classical pieces wedding music.

Brandenburg Concerto No.3, Bach

This piece is great fun – both to listen to and to play! It’s a happy sounding piece of music that will make everyone in an upbeat mood, ready to celebrate the most important day of your life!

Hornpipe in D from the Water Music, Handel

A majestic, regal sounding piece, which will lend a flare of importance to your wedding ceremony. If you want to leave your ceremony feeling like a king and queen then this may be the choice for you.

Queen of Sheba, Handel

This is another fun piece of music, which is busy and jubilant throughout. As soon as this piece starts it puts a smile on your face, although most of your guests will already be grinning from ear to ear as they watch you make one of the biggest commitments of your life.
